Hair Loss in Women | Woman Hair Loss

Women can experience hair loss and thinning just like men. The loss is much more devastating to a women since society emphasizes having hair with youth and health. There are many underlying causes for hair loss in women.

1. Hereditary. If anyone in your immediate family have experienced hair loss or thinning, the chances that you will suffer the same is likely. There are some treatments for hereditary hair loss in women that actually work to slow down the hair loss process and even re-grow hair that has already been lost.

2. Age. As women age, their hair tends to thin out naturally. If the hair thinning is significant, then it can be described as hair loss.

3. Pregnancy Women tend to experience some form of hair loss anywhere from 2-6 months after giving birth. As the hormones in the body adjust, the hair loss will stop and normal hair growth cycles will return.

4. Illness. An under-active or over-active thyroid can cause hair loss. Once the condition is treated, a normal hair growth cycle can be restored. Also, undergoing chemotherapy will cause temporary hair loss. As soon as the treatment finishes, the hair should grow back.

5. Severe infection, fever. Some illness can lead to hair loss as the body uses all possible resources to fight off the infection with a fever.

6. Alopecia areata. This is a type of hair loss that can affect women of any age. Hair will fall out and leave round coin-sized patches on the head. The cause of alopecia areata in women is not clear. Over time, the hair may grow back by itself. Hair loss in women caused by alopecia areata can be successfully treated by dermatologists.
